GEA Programme No. 308 - September 2007 ====================================== Editorial --------- Let's celebrate! It's a great year for anniversaries; the city of Munich - founded 1158 - celebrates its 174th Oktoberfest this year, and our own club - founded in 1982 by ten of Munich's citizens (seven of them by choice, three native) - celebrates an eventful career: 25 years and still going strong! Enjoy the September Sunshine: This may be the last opportunity this year for outdoor sports like tennis and sailing; those beer garden enthusiasts have to be prepared to think of moving indoors earlier than they did in high summer, but revellers on Schwabing's "party-mile" are still gong to be looking for one more fine Saturday on the 16th of this month. So there is no reason yet not to get out there are soak up some sunshine while you can. Choose the right weather-defying clothes and you can enjoy picnicking and racing at "sports day" on the 2nd, camping in Altmuhltal on the 8th-9th or any of the eight walks on offer this month - even one by moonlight on the 22nd! Review: a quarter-century of walks! Every single Sunday in our 25 years there has been a Walk, starting by S-Bahn from Munich centre and walking for three hours in the ever-changing, ever-pleasant surrounding countryside - mostly South, into the foothills of the Alps. We have had hikes and tours through the years; for instance with Roger - who hasn't missed one year with his annual mountain hike, and Sue Bollans, a past GEA organiser who lead a pilgrimage to a famous spot for many years. Prize question: Who can name both these two annual destinations? (Answers to the programme team / editor.) Preview: Halloween Party The date has been fixed for Wednesday, 31st October at a very nice location near to the Stachus Underground. There will be live music, fantastic decorations and - and - and!! Tickets will be on sale shortly after our 25th Anniversary Birthday Party, and will cost just ¤ 9.00 each - and that includes a voucher for ¤ 4.00 towards a meal of your choice! Take Darryl's advice: "Space is somewhat limited; so it's most advisable to make your reservations soon."
